I am a journalist and editor with over 15 years experience in the industry. I began my writing career in 2001 as Staff Features Writer on the Daily Mail, where my work - under my maiden name Stephanie Young - included lifestyle features, celebrity interviews and undercover investigations. In February 2005 I moved in-house to Woman & Home as Deputy Features Editor. There I commissioned, edited and continued to write features, liaising with agents and securing big names and cover interviews for the magazine.

Since 2006 I have been working on a freelance basis as a regular contributor to some of the biggest titles in the national press including Red, Marie Claire, Grazia, Glamour and Company. Much of my work comes from ideas I have generated and pitched and I specialise in human interest, lifestyle and health features. I am particularly good at unearthing unique and elusive case studies. I have also worked shifts on the commissioning desks of Red and Now.

I believe my initial career path - which began with a job in international syndication selling overseas rights to material produced by United News and Media and included 18 months in sales at Big Pictures both in London and New York and two years as a picture researcher at the Daily Mail - allows me a rounded view of the press. Although I retrained and came to writing later in life, the skills I acquired in these different areas allow me to think creatively, visually and commercially about the features I produce.

Since joining my colleagues at 38a The Shop, I have also been inspired to branch into children's book publishing and have recently begun writing for children, working with major publishing houses such as Penguin and Pedigree.
